We are thrilled to announce Lydia as the recipient of the July 2024 Financial Goals Scholarship from First Financial Bank Usa! Her inspiring essay and dedication to achieving her study abroad dreams truly resonated with us.
Lydia expressed her gratitude, stating, “I feel so blessed to be a recipient of the 1st Financial Bank USA Financial Goals Scholarship. I know this award is going to help me meet my goal of studying abroad in France next spring.”
Like Lydia, many students face financial hurdles while pursuing their education. Whether it’s aiming for a debt-free graduation, launching a business, or seeking enriching experiences like studying overseas, setting and diligently working towards financial goals is paramount. In her compelling essay, Lydia eloquently detailed her financial aspiration and the strategic steps she’s taking to realize it.
Lydia’s passion for global cultures ignited her dream of studying abroad. She chose a college known for its international programs and successfully earned a spot in a study abroad program. Her immediate financial goal is to save $5,000 to fund a semester in Strasbourg, France, in the Spring of 2025.
She explains, “Law school is in my future plans, making now the ideal time for international exploration. The demanding schedule of law school and the early career of a lawyer offer limited opportunities for extended travel. Studying abroad now is the perfect window for me to broaden my horizons. Living outside the United States has long been a dream, fostering a crucial appreciation for the world’s vastness, something easily missed when staying in one place. A semester in Europe is a dream come true, and I intend to maximize this opportunity by exploring as much as possible, hence the $5,000 savings goal.”
To achieve this ambitious goal, Lydia has proactively taken on multiple jobs. “This summer, I am working full-time at a local park and babysitting on weekends for extra income. I’ve adopted a strict budget, focusing solely on essentials. I’ve also secured an on-campus job for when I return to school, ensuring continuous savings for my trip. Furthermore, accepting a position as an orientation leader will provide a $500 stipend, which I intend to dedicate entirely to my study abroad expenses.”
Lydia’s commitment underscores a valuable lesson: “Sacrificing immediate desires for long-term goals is a crucial lesson reinforced throughout this saving journey. However, I am confident that it will be worthwhile in the end. I am grateful to learn this lesson now, as it will undoubtedly benefit my future financial endeavors and pave the way for long-term success.”
