River Bank And Trust is set to enhance its presence in the Birmingham region by relocating its office to a new, larger headquarters in Vestavia Hills, Alabama. This strategic move underscores River Bank and Trust’s commitment to growth and better serving its expanding customer base in the area.
Currently situated in Park South Plaza, River Bank and Trust’s Birmingham regional office is moving approximately 1.3 miles north on U.S. 31 to the extensively renovated former CVS Pharmacy building located at 1100 Montgomery Highway. According to Brian Ethridge, River Bank and Trust Birmingham Region President, this new location will offer significant advantages, including a drive-through service and nearly double the operational space, increasing from 5,700 square feet to a spacious 11,000 square feet.
The redesign and renovation of the new headquarters are being managed by Goodwyn, Mills & Cawood. River Bank and Trust anticipates commencing construction by May 1, with the goal of occupying the new facility in the fourth quarter of this year. This expansion reflects the bank’s successful growth in the Birmingham market since its entry two and a half years ago. While Park South Plaza provided a solid foundation, the need for more space and the convenience of a drive-through became essential to accommodate the bank’s growing operations and customer expectations.
River Bank and Trust, headquartered in Prattville, Alabama, boasts a network of 24 locations throughout the state. The Birmingham region office plays a crucial role, overseeing business operations across Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, Blount, and Tuscaloosa counties. The bank’s portfolio in this region is balanced, comprising approximately 60% commercial banking and 40% consumer banking services.
While online banking continues to evolve, River Bank and Trust recognizes the enduring value of personal interaction and community banking. Ethridge emphasized this philosophy, stating, “the need to have a branch in every submarket is not as critical as it used to be, but it is important to have some face time with customers.” He further noted that many customers appreciate the option to visit a branch, preferring to “know their banker, see their banker, [and] ask them for advice.”
This focus on personal relationships is a cornerstone of River Bank and Trust’s approach. “One thing we really excel in is personal relationships,” Ethridge affirmed. “We want to be the kind of bank that welcomes you when you walk through the door… We still have a real strong community focus.” This commitment to customer service and community engagement sets River Bank and Trust apart in an increasingly digital banking landscape.
The transformation of the former CVS building is intended to completely erase its prior identity. “I don’t want it to look anything like a remodeled CVS,” Ethridge stated, indicating significant architectural changes. Plans include relocating the building entrance away from the corner and shifting the drive-through from the rear to the south side, enhancing both aesthetics and functionality.
Since its inception in 2006, River Bank and Trust has experienced substantial growth, with assets now exceeding $3 billion. The relocation and expansion of the Birmingham regional headquarters are poised to further support this trajectory, reinforcing River Bank and Trust’s position as a leading community-focused bank in Alabama.
