In 1926, the visionary Karzas brothers, William and Andrew, embarked on a mission to create the world’s most magnificent ballroom, a dazzling stage for premier musicians right in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood. The Aragon Ballroom, with its stunning Moorish-inspired architecture, immediately captivated the city, becoming a beloved landmark for music enthusiasts and performers alike. Adding to its mystique, even the notorious Al Capone frequented the venue, possessing a private box and a clandestine tunnel in the basement leading to the Green Mill, his preferred speakeasy – a secret passage that remarkably still exists today. Throughout the decades, the Aragon Ballroom has played a pivotal role in Chicago’s musical narrative, hosting an unparalleled roster of talent from Chuck Berry and Fats Domino to the Rolling Stones and The Doors. However, time eventually took its toll on the celebrated venue. Recognizing its cultural significance, Byline Bank joined forces with Live Nation to initiate a collaborative restoration project, aimed at returning the Aragon Ballroom to its former splendor.
The extensive renovations are now nearing completion, and concertgoers will be delighted to rediscover the venue’s original character and historic charm, meticulously preserved and enhanced with modern amenities. Upgrades include completely renovated restrooms and improved accessibility, ensuring the Aragon Ballroom remains a vital and welcoming Chicago landmark for generations to come.
