Founded on July 1, 1947, CCB Community Bank, originally named Covington County Bank, started its journey in the old Andalusia National Bank Building. With initial assets of just over $226,000 and Charles Dixon as its first president, the bank has experienced significant evolution and growth. After several ownership transitions in its early decades, the bank relocated to its current main branch in February 1968.
This latest expansion into the former BB&T building addresses the bank’s need for more space to manage its growing operations. “We had outgrown our location. We moved a lot of our bank operations to the new building. It was something we needed since we now have five banks in operation,” stated Southern National Corporation Chairman/CEO John Vick. This move centralizes key operational departments, enhancing efficiency and inter-departmental coordination.
CCB Community Bank’s history reflects a series of strategic decisions that have shaped its present form. Joining Citibanc of Alabama in 1974 and later becoming South Trust Bank of Covington County in 1984, the bank returned to local ownership in April 1985 under Southern National Corporation. Reverting to Covington County Bank and then ultimately becoming CCB Community Bank in 2007, these name changes mirror the bank’s adaptation and commitment to its community focus. Michael Andrews succeeded Tom Lane as CEO in March 2020, continuing the leadership legacy.

Board Member John Taylor highlighted a unique connection to the new operations site, noting that his mother lived on the property during her childhood. This historical link adds a layer of local significance to CCB Community Bank’s acquisition. The building itself has a history of housing financial institutions, previously serving as First Federal and Savings Loan and later Colonial Bank, before BB&T.
Celebrating his 50th year as a bank director, John Vick emphasized CCB Community Bank’s enduring commitment to customer service. “Any bank can take your money and let you write a check; it’s how you treat your customers… You will always get an operator instead of a recording when you call CCB,” Vick remarked, underscoring the bank’s personalized approach.
While the operations building is not designed for public transactions, it features a 24-hour drive-through ATM for customer convenience. The primary benefit to the community will be the enhanced operational capacity allowing CCB Community Bank to maintain and improve its service offerings. “It gave us more room and offer better service. We spent about a year renovating it and getting it ready for our operations,” Vick explained.
From its first branch in Opp opening in 2002 to further expansions into Crestview, Niceville, and DeFuniak Springs, Florida, CCB Community Bank has steadily grown its presence across the region. With assets reaching approximately $661 million by December 2023 and employing 114 individuals across five locations, the bank’s expansion reflects its robust financial health and community trust.
John Taylor further commented on the board’s enthusiasm for the new facility, stating, “We were bulging at the seams to have an opportunity of doing something with the building. We felt it was not only good for the bank but also for our community and certainly good for our employees. This facility will give us opportunities for more expansion and additional branches.” This expansion positions CCB Community Bank for continued growth and enhanced service delivery in the region.
CCB Community Bank has consistently been at the forefront of banking innovation in Andalusia and Covington County, introducing services such as night deposits, 24-hour depositories, and drive-through banking. Located at 225 East Three Notch Street in downtown Andalusia, CCB Community Bank continues to be a vital financial institution for the community.
