Nashville’s East Bank: A Vision Plan Unveiled for Major Development

Nashville is set to transform its East Bank, a 338-acre area across the river from downtown, into vibrant new neighborhoods. The Metro Planning Commission officially adopted the Imagine East Bank vision plan on October 6, 2022, marking a significant step towards realizing this ambitious project. This plan is the result of extensive community engagement over nearly two years and lays out the framework for the East Bank’s future.

The Imagine East Bank vision is built upon four core concepts: creating an Equitable and Affordable East Bank, establishing Safe and Simple Multimodal Connections, ensuring Respect for the River, and fostering vibrant Neighborhoods for Nashvillians. These concepts are designed to guide the development of what is envisioned to become Nashville’s next great neighborhoods. A detailed overview of the plan’s key ideas and recommendations can be found in the Imagine East Bank Executive Summary.

Looking ahead, the Mayor’s Office will oversee development negotiations for the Metro-owned land within the East Bank area. More information regarding these negotiations and the broader development process is available at Nashville.gov/eastbank. The adopted Imagine East Bank Vision Plan will serve as a crucial guide for the Planning Department and Metro Planning Commission in their decisions concerning future East Bank developments. It will also play a key role in shaping zoning regulations and prioritizing infrastructure investments to support the growth of the East Bank.

Furthermore, the Guidance for East Bank Complete Streets document provides a framework for collaboration between the Nashville Department of Transportation (NDOT) and developers. This guidance aims to ensure a cohesive and efficient approach to transforming the East Bank’s transportation infrastructure, covering aspects like street design, right-of-way considerations, and access management. This collaborative approach is essential for the successful redevelopment of Nashville’s East Bank and its integration with the wider city.
