Forbes Best-In-State Banks 2024: Methodology and Ranking Factors
The Forbes Best-In-State Banks 2024 ranking, now in its seventh year, is the result of a collaboration with Statista Inc., a leading market research firm. This year’s evaluation was based on the responses of approximately 26,000 U.S. residents who participated in an extensive survey.
The survey asked participants to identify all banks and credit unions where they currently or previously held checking or savings accounts. Respondents were also encouraged to share their awareness of financial institutions through the experiences of their friends and family. Crucially, the survey measured customer satisfaction, asking participants to rate their satisfaction level and their willingness to recommend the bank to others.
The ranking methodology considered a range of key criteria vital to banking customers, including:
- Customer Service: Evaluating the quality and responsiveness of customer support.
- Financial Advice: Assessing the expertise and helpfulness of financial guidance provided by bank representatives.
- Fee Structures: Analyzing the transparency and competitiveness of bank fees.
- Digital Services: Examining the ease of use and functionality of online and mobile banking platforms.
- Branch Accessibility: Rating the convenience of branch locations and access to in-person assistance.
- Trust: Measuring the overall level of trust and confidence customers have in the financial institution.
In addition to the survey data, Statista incorporated online text reviews and ratings collected between February 2021 and March 2024, which contributed 20% to the final score. The survey responses represented the majority of the evaluation, accounting for 80% of the overall ranking.
